01 What was going on

A personal trainer's day-to-day was scattered. The workout sat in a spreadsheet or a PDF, the conversation with the student on WhatsApp, the progress photos in the cloud and the billing in their head. For the student, the week's workout was a message that had to be searched for.

Datafit was built to be the single layer of that operation. We designed the product in three fronts, app, web panel and website, on one central database, with three roles separated by permission: the personal trainer who builds and follows up, the student who trains and sees their own progress, and the platform administrator.

02 What had to change

Each student's workout, progress and billing lived in different places, with no data crossing from one to another.

Running a workout had to work in the middle of a set, with a timed rest and the exercise video one tap away, without the student opening a spreadsheet.

The personal trainer needed a ready management view of who trained, who progressed and who owes, without putting a report together by hand.

App, panel and billing could not carry two versions of the same business rule. The rule had to live in one place, with access controlled by role.

03 What we delivered

iOS and Android app from a single codebase, web panel for the trainer, the student and the administrator, workout execution with a rest timer, metrics, goals and progress photos, trainer finances, social area, subscription plan billing with automatic expiry, product presentation website.

04 How it was made

App design

We designed a design system of its own, with a component kit reused on every screen, among them bottom sheets, profile cards, shortcut cards and the swipeable card stack. Navigation follows the role of whoever signed in, so students and personal trainers see different products inside the same app.

The settings menu pushes the whole screen aside instead of overlapping it and, on iPhone, the workout in progress shows on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, with the timer running.

Workout execution

The student runs the workout exercise by exercise, done, in progress or skipped, with timed rest between sets and each exercise's video one tap away.

Progress and goals

Weight, measurements and monthly photos feed progress charts by period, with before and after side by side. Goals and achievements close the loop and give the student a reason to come back.

The trainer's finances

The personal trainer sees what was received in the month and the monthly fees split into paid, overdue and upcoming, with no spreadsheet and no chasing from memory.

Community

A social area where students and trainers share workouts and results, keeping the routine alive outside training time.

Data and rules

App and panel read and write on the same database, and the business rules live in it, in functions both call. There is one rule, not a copy on each side that diverges at the first adjustment. Each role's access is controlled in the database itself, not in the interface.

Web panel and billing

The same product in the browser. The personal trainer manages students, exercises, workout plans and monthly fees, and the administrator follows trainers and subscriptions. Plan billing comes in through an integration with the payment provider, by webhook, and expiry runs on its own every day, with nobody to remember it.

Presentation website

The product page, with the phones front and center, the before and after of a trainer's routine and the path to the app stores.

09 What changed afterwards

The personal trainer now has student, workout and payments in one place, and the student has the workout in their pocket, with the history of their own progress.

The product runs as an app, a panel and a website on a single database, and keeps evolving.
